A Fresh Start Found at Albany Helping Hands

I owe Albany Helping Hands so much. They have given me more than just a place to stay and a job. They have reminded me that even though I made mistakes in my life, I am still worthy of love and acceptance. They have shown me God’s loving forgiveness and been a constant reminder of His Love. It is my honor to now be a part of this team and pay it forward to others as they move through their journey.

The Testimony of the Executive Director

David was born into a family that consisted of an alcoholic mom and a convict dad. He spent time in and out of foster care and on and off the streets. He got involved in drugs and was addicted to meth and marijuana and alcohol for ten years before God got a hold of him and delivered him from that addiction. After receiving salvation, God allowed David to share his faith and lead many people to Christ in different jobs and workplaces. This position has enabled David to give back to the homeless community to receive what he did not as a homeless child and to reach the lost for Jesus Christ.

A Journey of Renewal at Albany Helping Hands

After arriving at AHH struggling with addiction and jail time, I found hope through the Ideal Options Program, achieving sobriety in one year. With AHH’s support, I rebuilt family ties, paid fines, got off parole, earned a driver’s license and job, and improved my health. Their help also enabled me to give back, transforming my life with a bright future ahead.

A Journey from Struggle to Strength

Many of those we serve never expected to be in a position of homelessness. Life took unexpected turns, tough choices were made, and before they knew it, they found themselves in need of support. At Albany Helping Hands, we understand that hardships can happen to anyone. We offer more than shelter—we provide a lifeline, helping individuals rebuild their lives, restore their dignity, and find hope for a brighter future. Everyone deserves a second chance, and we’re here to help them take that first step toward change.

"Every visit is an opportunity to spend time with new family and build relationships.  We daily yearn, hope, and pray for each soul. May the blessings we see and have through these interactions prosper and grow far beyond anything we are able to imagine and carry every person closer to God’s plan in love for them all."

background

"While there are many ways to contribute to the support of those in need, volunteering directly to serve at Albany Helping Hands has provided some of the most blessed opportunities our family has ever had the privilege to experience.  Serving others with love has never been just about putting food on a plate. Getting to know and love each person, providing empathy, giving recognition and support to every person, and treating them as God’s children has provided for many friendships, joy, and an environment that brings community, healing, and encouragement."

"God gave us all many gifts and talents and allowing even our young daughter to openly share hers has brought comfort and broken down walls that shines light in surprising ways.  Being vulnerable enough to engage in stories, puzzle games, sharing experiences, showing smiles, or engaging in a hug that hasn’t come for years is a heart melting experience."
