David was born into a family that consisted of an alcoholic mom and a convict dad. His first bong hit was at the young age of 8 years old. He remembers going to see his dad in prison even before he was in kindergarten. He grew up with the different men that his mom brought into their home, some of them abusive. He spent time in and out of foster care and on and off the streets, living out of a trash can in Reno as a teenager, stealing puppies and newspapers to sell them to make money for food. He got involved in drugs and was addicted to meth and marijuana and alcohol for ten years before God got a hold of him and delivered him from that addiction. He received life-changing salvation and turned away from the life of theft and addiction and chose to walk the path that God had laid for him.
After receiving salvation, God allowed David to share his faith and lead many people to Christ in different jobs and workplaces. God brought him to Albany Helping Hands after receiving healing in his ribs to become the Executive Director and Minister of the Gospel. This position has enabled David to give back to the homeless community to receive what he did not as a homeless child and to reach the lost for Jesus Christ.
