A Journey of Renewal at Albany Helping Hands

After arriving at AHH struggling with addiction and jail time, I found hope through the Ideal Options Program, achieving sobriety in one year. With AHH’s support, I rebuilt family ties, paid fines, got off parole, earned a driver’s license and job, and improved my health. Their help also enabled me to give back, transforming my life with a bright future ahead.

When I arrived at AHH, I was battling withdrawal from heroin and fentanyl after 24 days in jail. I had lost all hope, having overdosed 17 times—12 requiring hospitalization. But within two days, AHH connected me to the Ideal Options Program for suboxone treatment. Remarkably, I’m now on the final step in just one year, a process that often takes years. I’m determined to reclaim the real me!

AHH provided a safe space to heal at my own pace. With their unwavering support, I’ve stayed clean and sober, rebuilding broken family ties. Supported by AHH, my family, and the community, I took on odd jobs to pay off fines and complete parole. They even helped with a donation for my driver’s license. Recently, I landed a job to reintegrate into society, caught up on child support, fixed my teeth, and joined a gym for my mental and physical health. AHH also offered me an affordable “starter car.”

Thanks to their help, I’ve been able to give back—assisting someone to relocate and providing shoes and clothes to others. It feels incredible to pay it forward. Through AHH’s embodiment of God’s love, I’ve transformed my life. I’m now clean, sober, and eager for the future, ready to follow wherever God leads me!
