In late May 2024, I arrived at Albany Helping Hands (AHH). Having traveled from Idaho with nowhere else to turn, I was welcomed with open arms. AHH gave me a safe place to rebuild my life, sparing me from the uncertainty of the streets. I’ll forever be grateful for that.
At AHH, I was assigned to Desk One—an unexpected but eye-opening role. There, I met someone who would become not just a friend, but my roommate. Together, we worked hard, saved money, and collaborated with the amazing Case Managers to secure our own apartment. That move marked a turning point.
Inspired by my time at AHH, I’ve decided to chase a bigger dream. I’m enrolling at Linn-Benton Community College to study Administrative Business Management, with my sights set on a Master’s Degree at Oregon State University someday.
Even now, living independently, I feel the ongoing support of the AHH community. I’ve stayed connected with friends from the shelter and the Case Management team, who continue to cheer me on. I thank God every day for guiding me to Albany Helping Hands—a place that didn’t just give me shelter, but a chance to start anew.
